Top Ten Chinse EV/Hybrid Concepts

At the last Shanghai Auto Show we saw a large selection of Chinese concept vehicles from practically every Chinese manufacturer. It could be said that the Chinese automakers are rushing to flood the market with electric vehicles when compared to GM, Toyota, and Honda.

Haima MPE
haima-empv

Haima’s MPE is an interesting cuboid design, it is a very small car which in person is slightly larger than the Smart car. The Haima MPE will use Li-ion batteries when put into production, and acceleration is expected to be very high according to Haima.

I ripped the door handle off..

Haima ME

haimame

The Haima ME is larger than the Haima MPE and will come with a choice of two specifications.

The first model will have a top speed of 80kph and will be able to travel for 160km, the second model will be able to hit 120kph and will be able to go for 200km on a single charge. The motors will be brushless magnetic type, mated to Li-ion batteries, and will be able to ‘fast charge’ from a regular plug socket.

Greatwall Oula

greatwalloula

The Greatwall Oula was previously shown off by Greatwall, but came back longer, and fatter, with 4 seats (instead of two) and sporting a new name. The Oula will use a permasyn motor which will send the Oula for 160km and to a top speed of 130kph.

Dongfeng I-Car

dongfeng-icar

The Dongfeng I-Car is one of the finer designs from Dongfeng in the past few years, far from the horrors of the Dongfeng Coupe.

Information on what the I-Car will run come production is sketchy, this is one we will have to keep you updated on.

Geely Electric Panda

geely-eagle-ek2

Out of the two Geely concept cars that we’ve shown here, but this is the one that seems closest to production. The Panda is Geely’s best built car to date, even if the design is a little quirky.

Geely IG

geelyig

Geely’s IG is essentially a three seater city vehicle, not too dissimilar to the Haima MPE concept. The wheelbase of this concept is about 3m long, with a front drivers seat and two rear passenger seats. The IG is expected to be a super cheap EV for city use. The Geely IG has a single door, making it a certainly different design compared to the competition.

Brilliance EV

brillianceev

This is Brilliance’ first shot at the EV segment, excluding their Hybrid models, and is quite possibly their finest to date. The sliding door gives ample access to the seats in the rear.

Zotye EV

zotye2008ev

The Zotye EV is not the first time that we’ve seen it, despite its first official showing at the Shanghai Show a few weeks ago.

A Zotye EV was spotted out at a vehicle testing area a few weeks ago.

So how much for the Zotye EV SUV? A mere 100,000rmb.

Dongfeng Shuai Ke

dongfeng-shuai-ke

We’re not quite sure what the Shuai Ke’s English name actually is, you could roughly translate it as being ‘Handsome Guest‘ which sort of works, it’s a suitable name anyway. The Shuai Ke is capable of reaching 140kph and will be able to travel for 260km on a single charge.

If the Shuai Ke’s design is familiar to you, it’s because you’ve seen it before in the guise of the Nissan Serana, which for a short time was produced via Zhengzhou-Nissan but is set to be replaced by the Nissan NV200

SAIC Old Shanghai 750

roewe-hydrogen

SAIC took their Roewe 750 sedan, and dropped a hydrogen burning unit under the hood. The engine was designed in cooperation with GM and Tongqing university here in China. The interesting point about this car is that it’s a mixture of hydrogen burning, and plug-in hybrid. This car will be used during the World Expo in Shanghai (SAIC’s backyard) in 2010 for ferrying around important guests.

Europestar Persona EV

tongrui_ev

The Europestar Persona EV’s motor is capable of pumping out 125kw of power, and reaches 100kph in 12.5 seconds. The batteries used are apparently 400v polymer batteries which will propel the car to 161kph, and will go for 177km on a single charge.

BYD E6

The E6 is set to be BYD’s first pure electric vehicle, and it looks like it will be an interesting one. The E6 beats the competition with its 300km distance on a single charge, which is nearly double of many of the other vehicles listed above. The E6 will also be able to charge up from a regular home socket rather than a quick charging unit that is required for the F3 DM. More pictures of the E6 can be found here.
